問題 解答
I want to participate, how do I register?

The Taipei Fringe Festival uses an online registration system. Registration will be open from 12:00 Tuesday, March 7th, 2016 to 18:00 Wednesday, March 29st, 2016.

You may register as an individual performer or performance group. The Taipei Fringe Festival also encourages independent creators or groups to establish a theme, recruit fellow artists, seek out suitable venues, and communally create their own thematically structured performance series via curator accounts.

Follow the “How to Join” link for an illustrated explanation of the registration process.
Is there any difference between the individual performer and performance group registration processes?

The only difference is in the way registration fee invoices are distributed. Individual performers will receive a standard uniform invoice, while performance groups will receive a uniform invoice which includes their Tax ID number.

Can a performance group register as an individual?

Definitely!

If the performance group is not a registered theatre company (not incorporated), they may choose one member of their group to represent them (this person must have a Taiwanese ID Number) and apply as an individual while using the group name for performance and publicity purposes.

Taipei Fringe wants to encourage creativity and let as many creatives participate as possible, as such participation is not limited to incorporated entities.

Additionally, consistently using the same performing name increases the audiences familiarity with your team.
How much is the security deposit and registration fee?  What method should I use to transfer the funds?

* Registration fee: Every applicant must pay a non-refundable registration fee of $500 NTD. Curators must pay a non-refundable registration fee of $1000 NTD.

* Security deposit: Every artist must pay a security deposit.  The amount of the security deposit is based on the number of venues an artist uses.

(i) Individuals or Groups: For each venue you book, you must pay a separate deposit of $3,600 NTD. If you book 2 venues, you must pay 2 security deposits for a total of $7,200 NTD. As an example, if you are booking 1 venue, then when you register you must pay $500 + $3,600 = $4,100 NTD. Or, if you are booking 2 venues, then you must pay the $500 NTD registration fee + 2 security deposits of $3600 x 2 =  $7,700 NTD.

(ii) Performance Series: For each venue you book, you must pay a separate deposit of $5,000 NTD. If you book 2 venues, you must pay 2 security deposits and so on. As an example, if you are booking 3 venues, then when you register you must pay $1000 + $5,000 x 3 = $16,000 NTD

* Artists using self-provided venues may pay just one security deposit of $3600 NTD, regardless of the number of self-provided venues used. For example, if you use one self-provided venue, you pay $500 + $3,600 = $4,100 NTD.

* Non-resident performers may pay the registration fee and security deposit by credit card. Residents of Taiwan must use remit the payments via local bank transfer. All associated service fees are the responsibility of the performer.

* Bank remittance info for registration fee and security deposit payments:
Bank (銀行): 台北富邦銀行 (Taipei Fubon Bank)
Branch (分行): 市府分行 (City Hall Branch)
Account No.(帳號): 411102032900
Account Name(戶名): 財團法人台北市文化基金會表演藝術節統籌專戶
Will security deposits be returned? When?

Once we have confirmed that you:

(1) Have successfully completed all of your performances
(2) We're present at all required meetings
(3) You caused no damage to the venues you performed at

Refunds will be processed around 2-months after the festival ends.
I want to organize a "performance series". How do I go about registering an account with curator status?

* The Taipei Fringe Festival encourages independent creators or groups to establish a theme, recruit fellow artists, seek out suitable venues, and communally create their own thematically structured performance series. Curators accounts enjoy a greater allocation of resources to work with, with the ability to book up to 10 time-slots at up to 4 different venues. Furthermore, they are not limited in their number of programs.

* Applicants interested in registering accounts with curator status must first discuss their plan with Associate Curator of Taipei Fringe Festival Hsin-I Lin before being allowed to begin the process of online registration.  You can contact Hsin-I to book an appointment at hilin@taipeifringe.org. Interviews must be conducted no later than Fri, March 10th, 2017.
Am I required to sell tickets for my Taipei Fringe Festival performance?

Yes.

Based on the concept of patronage, we want to encourage audiences to buy tickets thus supporting Fringe performers. In addition, because the festival cannot provide any funds to support productions, ticket sales are a way for performers to subsidize their production costs, and perhaps even make a profit!

Because all ticket revenue is collected by the performers themselves, they (you) must contact ArtsTicket directly to set up their contract and the related administrative procedures. All fees associated with use of ArtsTicket are solely the responsibility of the performer.
What methods can I use to sell tickets? In the past, having each performer manage ticket sales with different ticketing systems created a lot of communication problems for audiences and resulted in tax issues. Consequently, the Taipei Fringe has standardized the ticket sales process to be conducted unilaterally over ArtsTicket (兩廳院售票系統).
Why do we have to survey venues prior to reserving time-slots?

This is to make sure that applicants are fully aware of each venue's idiosyncracies and how these will affect their performance. If applicants are required to look at the venues, they will have the opportunity to see venues that they might not have considered in the beginning.

The festival has spent a lot of energy and funds looking for and discussing how to work with suitable venues. While these venues are provided free-of-charge, we hope that by visiting the venues early, performers can better incorporate the atmosphere and ambiance of the venue(s) that they choose to work with into their performance.

The first two years of the festival, applicants were not required to survey venues before signing up for time-slots. This “early bird gets the worm” style of registration allowed many artists to get the venues they wanted when they wanted them. However, this system consequently resulted in several problems. For example, some artists who did not survey their venues at all before signing up for them were surprised to find the venue actually didn't suit their performance at all when they showed up for the technical rehearsal. In these kinds of situations, it was a shame to see a great opportunity lost through lack of awareness. This is why all applicants are required to survey each venue they would like to book and have the venue stamp a Venue Survey Form before they will be able to reserve the venue.
When are the relevant deadlines for registration?

The Taipei Fringe Festival registration period is between 12:00 March 7, 2017 and 18:00 March 29, 2017. At 18:01 on March 29, 2017 the registration function of the website will cease to function.

Only Venue Survey Forms postmarked between March 7th and March 29 will be accepted, if you miss this period you will have to wait until next year to perform.

We remind you again: we will only accept packages delivered by post. We do not accept express or personal deliveries of registration documents.
I want to turn in my Venue Survey Forms and other documents ASAP.  Do I have to mail them in or can I bring them in personally? No.
All documents must be mailed through the Taiwanese postal system. The Foundation will not accept express or personal deliveries.
If I want registration rights for 4 different venues, do I have to pay 4 different deposits?

Performance Series accounts who anticipate using four different venues must pay four security deposits.

Performers may unlock venue registration by completing the venue survey process.
How will I know when I can start reserving time-slots?

Once you have completed the following steps:

(1) Complete the online registartion process
(2) Remit the registration fee and security deposit and upload receipts
(3) Print and complete Venue Survey Form(s)
(4) Mail in your Venue Survey Form(s)

When we receive your Venue Survey Form(s) in the mail and confirm that everything is correct, we will grant time-slot reservation rights for the corresponding venues and notify you by SMS and email.

The time it takes from receiving your registration documents to opening the time-slot booking system will be 1-2 working days, so please have patience. We have people taking care of the mail every working day. If you mail in your registration package on a Friday, the Fringe will not begin processing it until the following week, again, do not panic. Packages will be processed by the date and time of their postmark.

Please check your email often. If you do not receive an email from Fringe, check your junk mail box and make sure that Fringe emails are marked as non-junk mail. (Pro Tip: designate the Taipei Fringe email address as a safe address within your mail filter.)
How do I reserve time-slots?

As soon as you receive notification that you are allowed to start booking your time-slots, you can immediately log in and start the booking process.

On Taipei Fringe Festival's official website, click on the "Artist’s Area" button by the upper right hand cover of the front page to sign in with your login name and password. Once logged in click on the “Venue Reservation” tab, then click on the button "Book a Venue".

Reminders:
1.   For the time-slots you would like to book, you must click the preferred time checkbox(es) and then click on the "add this booking" to make that time-slot enter into your schedule preview.

2.   After completing the preview, you must then click on the “Complete Booking” button.  It is only after you have done this that your booking is confirmed.

3.   It is possible to make changes to your bookings after completing your reservation; however you will have to cancel all of your booked time-slots and restart the booking process again from the beginning.

Performance Series Venue Reservations:
As soon as you receive notification you may log in and start selecting venues. On Taipei Fringe Festival's official website click the “Artist’s Area” button on the upper right hand corner of the front page to sign in with your login name and password.

Accounts with curator status can use the reservation system to sequentially reserve spaces for each of their programs.

Reminders:
1.   Accounts must book programs in sequence. To begin click “Select Program” bottom on the upper left when you arrive at the venue reservation page. Here you can select which program you would like to reserve a venue for. You must then proceed to select and confirm a venue reservation for the system to register your reservation.

2.   If you would like to continue reserving venues for any remaining programs, you may do so by clicking the “Select Program” button on the upper left and sequentially repeating the process above for each remaining program.

3.   Please ensure that all of your programs meet the 3 time-slot per weekend reservation limit. Each program must individually meet this requirement.
Is it possible to alter my already reserved time-slots? Yes.

You can sign in to the time-slot system and change times anytime before 18:00 March 29, 2017.

Note: If you want to cancel a booked time-slot, you must cancel all of your previously booked time-slots and start the entire time-slot booking process from the beginning.
I've only remitted one security deposit. May I sign up for 2 venues?

No.

If you decide that you want to reserve 2 different venues, please transfer a second security deposit to our bank and upload the receipt online. Once we have confirmed the second deposit your second venue time-slot reservation rights will be granted.
Can I reserve consecutive time-slots in order to allow myself rehearsal time, and only perform once?

In accordance with the festival rules, you must perform at least 1 time during each time-slot and in addition, you must officially sell tickets to this performance.

In this scenario, you may creatively use your time to grant yourself extra striking time, or a bit of rehearsal time, but please note you must perform once per time-slot in order to not break festival regulation.
I haven't received any email notifications from Taipei Fringe Festival with regards to my registration and/or time-slot reservation. What should I do? Because Taipei Fringe Festival sent emails sometimes get mislabeled as junk by mail filters, please first check in your junk mail folder to see if your notification is there. If you still can't find it, and you've checked that the email address you've given us is correct, then please contact us by phone at +886-2-2528-9580 ext. 199.
If the venues I want to book are full, can I still acquire reservation rights for other venues? Sure! As long as you it is still before the application deadline, just head to the new venue with a new Venue Survey Form, get it stamped, and mail it in to us. We will do our best to grant you time-slot reservation rights as soon as we receive the new documents.
Can I edit my registration information? No. The information you give in your application has already been saved and will not be editable until April when your program information will be open for editing. Please make sure you check that the information is correct before you hit that "send" button.
What is my registration number? Where can I find it?

Upon successful completion of ”Performer's Basic Information” and ”Performance Plan” forms, the registration system will automatically assign a registration number to you (each account will only receive one registration number). This number will be sent automatically to your account's associated email address entered at time of registration.

Please be aware, in order to expedite the processing of venue time-slot reservation rights, this registration number will be required to be filled out on all Venue Survey Forms mailed in to the festival.
After we successfully completed registration. We've had an emergency and have to cancel our performance(s). What happens?

Scenario 1

a. Request to cancel prior to April 21: entire security deposit refunded
b. Request to cancel prior to May 19: forfeit half of security deposit, half refunded
c. Request to cancel on or after May 20: forfeit entire security deposit

→ If you decide to cancel your participation after completing registration, we are still able to allocate the venue time-slots to others.

Scenario 2
If you request to cancel your performance after ticket sales have started on June 30th, the venue time-slot will be unable to be reclaimed for use by another performer, but the festival will still be contractually obliged to pay the rental fee. In this scenario, the performer will be penalized a share of the venue rental fee equal to 1 extra security deposit. For example, if a performer were to cancel performances at 2 venues, they would have to pay 2 rental fee amounts of 3,600 NTD (7,200 NTD total) in addition to forfeiting the entirety of their security deposit. The same rule applies to performance series.

The above rule also applies to performers who cancel a portion of their performances. Please cherish and respect your reserved time-slots.
